The UWA Centre for English Language Teaching offers full-time preparation courses for the internationally recognised Cambridge examinations. These courses provide vigorous exam training and allow high achieving students to develop language awareness, communication skills and critical thinking.

Cambridge courses enable you to ‘fine tune’ your English, with a strong focus on grammar and writing structure. These courses also help you to improve speaking, reading and listening skills and to build your vocabulary. As the Cambridge exams have a high pass rate, the courses improve your accuracy and fluency, giving you the confidence to be an effective English speaker.

There are three Cambridge terms each year with examinations in March, June and December. It is not compulsory to take the examination as part of the course, however it is encouraged. CELT offers preparation for the following Cambridge examinations:

  1. Preliminary English Test (PET)
  2. First Certificate in English (FCE)
  3. Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)

Preliminary English Test (PET)

This preparation course for the intermediate PET examination aims to develop the skills needed to cope in social and work situations. With the help of dedicated and experienced teachers, you can ensure your progress as you are given continual feedback. You will gain skills that are applicable to the exam and real life.

First Certificate in English (FCE)

The upper-intermediate FCE examination preparation course provides a solid foundation in grammar and vocabulary development and is pathway to CELT’s Academic English and Study Skills Bridging Course. The FCE examination improves your chances of gaining work in many countries throughout the world and is accepted by some tertiary vocational education institutions as proof of English language ability.

Certificate in Advanced English (CAE)

This course offers preparation for the advanced level CAE examination which, like the FCE examination, improves your chances of gaining work throughout the world. The CAE examination is accepted by most universities and colleges as evidence of English language ability.
