The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam measures English proficiency across all levels.
In Australia candidates take the internet-based test (iBT). The TOEFL iBT evaluates your ability to use and understand English at university level.
The test takes approximately four and a half hours to complete and has four sections:
The UWA Centre for English Language Teaching is an authorised TOEFL iBT test centre. Examination preparation is offered as a 25-hour course delivered across five hours per week.
While the TOEFL iBT is an American examination, it provides you with a solid foundation of academic skills to be able to function in an Australian University environment.
Preparation classes focus on helping you to develop strategies for taking this test successfully whilst developing speaking, listening, reading and writing skills and your use of language. The tasks are integrated and applicable to real life University situations. For example, listening to and writing a comment on a lecture.
The part-time workshop can be taken in conjunction with a course in General or Academic English; this full-time mode will help you develop your language skills faster and to achieve better results in the examination.
